Why is Sakura so Important?

Sakura, or cherry blossoms are richly symbolic in Japan. They are often seen in Japanese art, in modern culture as well as at performances and festivals.

The transience of the blossoms, their exquisite beauty and their volatility, has often been associated with:

Grace, mortality and the acceptance of destiny.
